Best Place to Live in Lane County, Oregon
There are many wonderful places to live in Lane County, Oregon. How can there not be in a county that stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Cascades? Favorite or best cities in Lane County entirely depend on who you ask, but here’s the rundown on three of them. Why focus on just these three? Well because to go into glorious detail on all 12 of the incorporated cities not to mention the dozens more of unincorporated areas would simply take all day.
Eugene: To not mention the county seat of Lane County would be remiss. Put simply, Eugene is your classic college town. Eugene may not be geographically large(small enough to ride your bike across), but they certainly live large with their offerings of galleries, restaurants, and great music venues. Eugene has more working artists and musicians than even the ever more popular, Portland. If you love the outdoors, you’re the perfect candidate for the Eugene lifestyle. Within easy reach are rivers to run, mountains to snowboard, rocks to climb, trails to hike, and ocean to surf.
Springfield: Springfield is Eugene’s neighbor to the right and you hardly hear about one without hearing about the other. Springfield’s population is only about 60,000 compared to Eugene’s 200,000 but they’re their own big deal in that they are the source of the inspiration for Springfield’s name in The Simpson’s, a cartoon by Matt Groenig. Springfield is also home to Riverbend Hospital, the nicest, largest and most beautiful hospital between Portland and San Francisco. Springfield, while holding true to its neighbor, Eugene in recreation is also full of people who love the outdoors, including hunting and skiing!
Oakridge: Known as the center of Oregon recreation and the biking capital of the Northwest, many who love the outdoors love Oakridge. Surrounded by Willamette National Forest, Oakridge is nestled in the foothills of the Western Cascade Mountains. Oakridge may only have a population of just over 3,000, but many come to visit and partake of its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The beauty of the wildflowers here is legendary and the fishing can’t be beat!
Florence: Of course, if you want the best place to live on the Oregon coast and in Lane County we can’t forget about my home town, Florence. Beautiful views, homes, waterfront living and access to some of the best boating around. Come see for yourself why Florence is one of the best places to live and retire on the Oregon Coast.
