The Oregon coast is a popular getaway for Labor Day weekend with endless great camping spots and hiking trails. It is no surprise that the population of Florence and neighboring areas along the coast increases for the weekend.
In addition to the favorite American Labor Day pastime of camping there are some fun festivities around Florence to enjoy:
Labor Day in Yachats
Sept 2-5 Yachats Arts Guild Gallery- Around 30 coastal artists will have their works in oils, water colors, photography, acrylics, pen and ink, wood and others on display.
Sept 3 Yachats Ladies Club Labor Day Pie and Ice Cream Social- This is a well loved and popular Labor Day tradition on the coast. The variety of pies will surprise and amaze you. Slices are sold in generous 6th of the pie portions. A wide selection of beverages will also be available for sale and enjoyment. The early bird gets the best pie selection so come early for the most choices. This event starts at 11am and goes to about 3pm or until the pie is sold out. Located at West 3rd Place and Pontiac.
Sep 3-4 Art by the Bay- 50+ Pacific Northwest Artists will be selling and working on their art. Includes music, wineries, food, and much more. Fun for the family.
Sep 2-4 Slam’n Salmon Ocean Derby- just a few hours drive from Florence is the largest ocean fishing derby on the West Coast. Hundreds of fishermen come to Brookings every Labor Day weekend to try and catch the “Trophy Chinook Salmon”
Sep 4 Old Fashioned Carnival- also just a few hours outside of Florence is Rockaway Beach. Enjoy a traditional old fashioned carnival with booth games, live entertainment, dunk tank, bingo, and more. The proceeds go to raise money for Rockaway Beach Parks and Rec programs. The festivities take place from 12-5 at Phyllis Baker Park.
