Yachats Bay – Lincoln County Oregon
There’s something mystical and magical about Yachats Bay, Oregon in Lincoln County. It’s name actually means “dark water at the foot of the mountain”. You can’t get more mysterious with such an enchanting name as that. This place is charming and altogether “other worldly”.
There’s an exceptionally magical spot along the river side where a tiny staircase winds its way gracefully down to the mouth of the bay. Here, you’ll be delighted by a mix of concrete slabs and basalt slabs, interspersed with tide pools and moments of weird marine life. It’s geological nature in all its mesmerizing glory. Not only all that, but this place is exceptionally enchanting when the wild flowers are in bloom, splashing their joyful color amongst it all.
Within this cove, is an even tinier cove, where more tidal life in vast numbers can be found. Birds love to gather here as well, just waiting for their next dive for fish. These vantage points bring you extremely close to the river where it pours into the sea. It’s an ideal place to watch seals and other delightful sea life play in the sea water.
As with all magical places, there is an element of danger however. Should a storm come brewing in or giant waves on the rise, this is no place to be. This place is no place to be during stormy weather or large wave events, however. (Below: the cove within the bay)
